Being a girl I can say that every girl who is living in this society more or less they are facing the same problem. The pressure from parents and society to get married even before they become independent. I totally support this Bill, if it works then it's a boon for our society.

No matter which party you support, you have to agree that this tackles a very important issue for women in our country. At the age of 18, people can barely manage themselves. How are they supposed to provide support to a partner as well. If people marry later, they have a better understanding of themselves and the world thus are better equipped to handle the challenges of married life. And yes, as Dhruv said that this bill needs to be implemented properly on ground level, but it is undoubtedly a good starting point.
23% marriages are Child marriages. And in many other cases I have seen, marriage of a girl is fixed before 18 and done immediately after she turns 18 (or after 12th board exams)

In my opinion education is very important for a girl child because few years ago a maid works in my home she was having 2 daughters they both r teen child like 15 16 years old girls but they got married in under age like 16 17 because they were not educated 😢
As a doctor, I have seen so many girls getting married at a younger age while their still not mentally matured, they are prone to suffer postpartum blues, postpartum depression and in extreme cases postpartum psychosis. The step to increase the minimum age limit of girls to 21, would ensure to decrease problems like these.

Those people who are saying that this law will take away the choice of women to marry at 18, are ignoring the simple reality of India where most marriages are actually "arranged marriages". So, it's not really about taking away the "choice", it's about postponing the inevitable to a later age where the women might get the chance of higher education and working towards their career. Beacuse, let's face it, we all (both men and women) will be forced to marry at some point, but at least women will now have the chance to be at a better position educationally and/or financially (those women who would have been married away at a younger age).
Iam from a village in Rajasthan, the general trend regarding marital age for men and women in my village are Females- 22/23 Males - 25/26/27 MY parents married at a very early age and when My dad was 21 yrs old he had his 1st kid , at that time my mom was 18 urs old .. I see the transformation in society in my village

In India, people have a habit of violating government rules and regulations. So the government thought, if the age of marriage is fixed at 21 years, then the people will get married at the age of 18 after reducing it by 1-2 years.
This was a very good step. I fully support this. Atleast girls will be allowed to study till graduation. We should all see this in a bigger picture . This is very important for a country like India where people force their daughters to marry early.

I as Girl ... fully support this decision of increasing 18 to 21 yrs for marriage. When a person dont even know what a marriage is and emotionally,personailty,career wise,mentally,economically not grown and ready for marriage. This ultimately will have impact great negative impact,influence,effect on society,family and individual him/her self . And We all know marriage is a legal agreement that is given to have sex,most of them dont even know what that lead to. A baby is born where the immature parents couple dont even know how to raise this newborn with no income,career will eventually may ruin and make the kids life in trouble of not getting right nutrition,education,manners,basic facilities. As a girl I fully support this law when I came to know about this law I feel so satisfied cos I see in my surrounding there are lots of girls who are not mature in their 18 and they took wrong decision of marring wrong person and when they realise it its already too late and there no other option than regret.
It's actually pretty sensible that they've put the age limit to 21, so as to allow for better career, better pregnancy health, better mental preparedness, the benefits are endless, if implemented properly

I support this bill. Because I know the consequences of getting married (specially arranged aka forced) I got married just after a month I became 18. And my parents are not illiterate or backward part society both of them are well educated in fact both are working government officials. I was a topper upto 12th. I appose for the marriage for days but I can't go against them. My in-laws were educated and government servants too. After marriage I started my college bt I was unable to concentrate on studies as l will have to choose my priorities between marriage and studies. And I end up with clg drop out due to failed in exam. I got into the depression because I was constantly a bright student. I succumb to my failures due to responsibilities at very young age. My mom in law was in hospital for serious issues during my exam period and I was asked to leave exam. My in laws and my husband were not against my education bt never helped me though. As a result my dreams ended up with a 3 years depression phase. So moral of my story is that girls get quality education get a job first make ur priority first nd then Think about marriage 😢😢
I think to complete education with a minimum degree takes 22-23 yrs for both men and women. I think it is good decision by India to make it both 21 so teens can focus more on their education and postpone marriage until minimum degree is achieved. I'm happy that India doesn't follow other countries blindly at least from recent years.
In addition to this law, Indian Government must also pass a bill which requires consent of both Groom and Bride even after they attain marriageable age.
Ofcourse then it becomes forced marriage which is anyway illegal. Making another law for it wont help really but enforcing present laws properly would.
I agree but correction is they have to formulate a law against martial rape but there are loopholes in the consent thing. First it's not possible for a couple to have a record of consent before being physical everytime. Also such law can be used in inappropriate way too just to frame your partner. Hence for consent their should be a way to be found which can tackle both of these problems. I again say I strongly condemned marital rape and I believe it's equal to any other rape but marriage is something that makes justice delivering process complicated here. We have to found a solid ways. While almost every time a women is a victim but consent thing can increase the number of men victims of false accusations too. Just my perspective of the thing, sorry if I hurt anyone's sentiment.
I support this bill because it brings equality in marriage age of boys and girls...if a boy has a right to make his career till 21 then why not girls...why should girls marry early?

Major focus should be on 'financial stability' for a girl . I still believe 21 years is less it has to be increased to 25 at that age girls can be financially independent and is capable of taking decision to marry after being financially stable. Most important thing which is necessary while taking marriage decison is 'free consent'. Marriage by force should be void . They should ban those marriages where free consent is not there be it any age . Marriage decison should be taken by those individuals and not some family members deciding for them and then forcing the person to marry. If a person is 18 years and he/she wants to marry it has to be their own choice and not by any force . Child marriages has to be completely banned because a person below 18 years of age is not capable of deciding such a big decision like marriage. Sadly in some parts of India child marriages is still followed and evn when a girls becomes 18 years of age family members tend to take decisions for their marriage . Individual choice and financial stability should be prioritised first.
True, it should have been 25 as this is still too low. Most students don't get to complete their higher education and nor get decent jobs until 25. And due to overpopulation, rather the govt should also incentivise people to opt for a single and childfree life.

This is a very good decision for sure but sadly these laws are not being implemented properly. I know girls getting married at the age 16 and 17. Dowry is illegal as well but as a South Indian I am ashamed that it is still a very common tradition. And surprisingly the amount is just increasing!
It's not only in South. I am a Varanasi (UP) rajput family settled in Hyderabad. But still even if girl earns more than 30 LPA from well settled job, she needs to pay dowry even she wants to marry anyone. You can not even imagine how tough it is to fight against dowry when you are 30 years in Rajput family. Physical, mental and emotional torture etc.
This bill would also to some extend prevent forced child marriages, I am 19 and I cant even think about getting married, my parent were married at the ages of 24 and 27 in the 90s. Im glad my grandparents valued their education more
If I am given the choice to marry at the age of 20 as a female I do not believe I have the mental maturity or life experience to make an informed decision. 21 is the ideal minimum age to hold individuals accountable for a decision with serious consequences- legal and otherwise.
I personally support this Bill but government should try their best to implement this properly. Like our village in many remote areas child marriage is being connected . Police also didn't try their best to prevent theses kind of activities 😥. So this act should be implemented porerly.
Everyone is talking about the legal age of marriage, what about the fulfilment of biological (sexual desire) of teenagers? In west they get it quite easily, in India they have to wait till they reach 30's. It is one of the major cause of depression in youths. I think that the law should be so that, marriage be allowed at the age of 16, but no babies till the girl is 21. Girls should be allowed to perceive their career, and every year or 2, there should be renewal of marriage till 21 yo. In this period if the girl or boy or their family want to terminate the marriage they should be able to do it easily.
I actually agree with this move cuz at 18 u maybe consider an adult but u don't have the level of maturity to deal with marriage. Moreover this will prevent girls being forcefully married against their will without taking their consent for marriage . I am 17 years old and have completed 12th grade. I have a friend who is 18 years old and already married. She got married before becoming an adult. Back when we were in 6th grade, she used to tell us that she was engaged, but none of us believed her. She ended up getting married when we were in 7th grade, claiming that it was her choice. She started living in her in-law's house when we were in 10th grade. She even invited some friends, including me, to her wedding. we studied in a english medium private school

I personally feel govt. Restrictions were at 18 then in many places people were marrying their daughter and girls as soon as they turned 18. And so if we assume girls start their education when they turn 5 or 6 then we can see girls were getting married as soon as they pass out 12 hence that was taking toll on their education (higher studies) and everyone should have that right so it is fair and right to move that to 21 yrs so at least they can pursue and continue their graduation and try to follow their dreams rather than being just a groom and be a housemaker. On an avg girls get married at 22-24 and boys get married around 24-27 so there is nothing wrong but looks like it's a progressive steps towards women empowerment by increase their minimum marriage age to 21.

A firm law on marriage age limit and child-marriage prohibition must be made and implemented. I've seen many cases where girls who could have done very well in their life but succumbed to the societal and family pressure. Parents should also be made aware of these things specially in rural areas. As I belong to one where not only the elders but youngsters also still have these notions if they don't get their girls married and young age they would go doing things that would defame their family respect and there is no such things for their boys. Girls should also come forth firmly to oppose these ill practices and speak up for themselves which they can do surely if backed up by a firm law and well implemented administrative set-up. They create generation gap with their children, childlessness, declining in birth rate, abnormality in children, fertility issues etc Therefore, age may not be the only criteria to solve all problems. Lack of 'education' is the root cause of most of the problems. More than just 'age' criteria, good education plays an important role to provide support system to bride, groom and both families to make a marriage successful. No matter which party you support, you have to agree that this tackles a very important issue for women in our country. At the age of 18, people can barely manage themselves. How are they supposed to provide support to a partner as well. If people marry later, they have a better understanding of themselves and the world thus are better equipped to handle the challenges of married life. Those people who are saying that this law will take away the choice of women to marry at 18, are ignoring the simple reality of India where most marriages are actually "arranged marriages".
So, it's not really about taking away the "choice", it's about postponing the inevitable to a later age where the women might get the chance of higher education and working towards their career.

I support this bill. Because I know the consequences of getting married (specially arranged aka forced) I got married just after a month I became 18. And my parents are not illiterate or backward part society both of them are well educated in fact both are working government officials. I was a topper upto 12th. I appose for the marriage for days but I can't go against them. My in-laws were educated and government servants too. After marriage I started my college bt I was unable to concentrate on studies as l will have to choose my priorities between marriage and studies. And I end up with clg drop out due to failed in exam. I got into the depression because I was constantly a bright student. I succumb to my failures due to responsibilities at very young age. My mom in law was in hospital for serious issues during my exam period and I was asked to leave exam. My in laws and my husband were not against my education bt never helped me though. As a result my dreams ended up with a 3 years depression phase. So moral of my story is that girls get quality education get a job first make ur priority first nd then Think about marriage 😢😢

I think to complete education with a minimum degree takes 22-23 yrs for both men and women. I think it is good decision by India to make it both 21 so teens can focus more on their education and postpone marriage until minimum degree is achieved. I'm happy that India doesn't follow other countries blindly at least from recent years.

I agree but correction is they have to formulate a law against martial rape but there are loopholes in the consent thing. First it's not possible for a couple to have a record of consent before being physical everytime. Also such law can be used in inappropriate way too just to frame your partner. Hence for consent their should be a way to be found which can tackle both of these problems. I again say I strongly condemned marital rape and I believe it's equal to any other rape but marriage is something that makes justice delivering process complicated here. We have to found a solid ways. While almost every time a women is a victim but consent thing can increase the number of men victims of false accusations too. Just my perspective of the thing, sorry if I hurt anyone's sentiment.

Major focus should be on 'financial stability' for a girl . I still believe 21 years is less it has to be increased to 25 at that age girls can be financially independent and is capable of taking decision to marry after being financially stable. Most important thing which is necessary while taking marriage decison is 'free consent'. Marriage by force should be void . They should ban those marriages where free consent is not there be it any age . Marriage decison should be taken by those individuals and not some family members deciding for them and then forcing the person to marry. If a person is 18 years and he/she wants to marry it has to be their own choice and not by any force . Child marriages has to be completely banned because a person below 18 years of age is not capable of deciding such a big decision like marriage. Sadly in some parts of India child marriages is still followed and evn when a girls becomes 18 years of age family members tend to take decisions for their marriage . Individual choice and financial stability should be prioritised first.

It's not only in South. I am a Varanasi (UP) rajput family settled in Hyderabad. But still even if girl earns more than 30 LPA from well settled job, she needs to pay dowry even she wants to marry anyone. You can not even imagine how tough it is to fight against dowry when you are 30 years in Rajput family. Physical, mental and emotional torture etc.
This bill would also to some extend prevent forced child marriages, I am 19 and I cant even think about getting married, my parent were married at the ages of 24 and 27 in the 90s. Im glad my grandparents valued their education more

I think that the law should be so that, marriage be allowed at the age of 16, but no babies till the girl is 21. Girls should be allowed to perceive their career, and every year or 2, there should be renewal of marriage till 21 yo. In this period if the girl or boy or their family want to terminate the marriage they should be able to do it easily.

I actually agree with this move cuz at 18 u maybe consider an adult but u don't have the level of maturity to deal with marriage. Moreover this will prevent girls being forcefully married against their will without taking their consent for marriage . At 21 you would have gained some level of maturity required to handle the responsibilities that come with marriage. I have 3 cousin sister and they got married when they thought it was right for them and to men they liked not cuz they were forced into it. Back when we were in 6th grade, she used to tell us that she was engaged, but none of us believed her. She ended up getting married when we were in 7th grade, claiming that it was her choice. She started living in her in-law's house when we were in 10th grade. She even invited some friends, including me, to her wedding. we studied in a english medium private school

I personally feel govt. Restrictions were at 18 then in many places people were marrying their daughter and girls as soon as they turned 18.
And so if we assume girls start their education when they turn 5 or 6 then we can see girls were getting married as soon as they pass out 12 hence that was taking toll on their education (higher studies) and everyone should have that right so it is fair and right to move that to 21 yrs so at least they can pursue and continue their graduation and try to follow their dreams rather than being just a groom and be a housemaker.

A firm law on marriage age limit and child-marriage prohibition must be made and implemented.
I've seen many cases where girls who could have done very well in their life but succumbed to the societal and family pressure.
Parents should also be made aware of these things specially in rural areas. As I belong to one where not only the elders but youngsters also still have these notions if they don't get their girls married and young age they would go doing things that would defame their family respect and there is no such things for their boys.
Girls should also come forth firmly to oppose these ill practices and speak up for themselves which they can do surely if backed up by a firm law and well implemented administrative set-up.

Well, a good intiative taken by our Indian govt. to keep the same age for both women and men...I always used to think, that why age (18 yrs) less for women and why 21 yrs more age for men...But, moreover, in my opinion marriage should take place when both the partners are financially indepenedent...amd when two people are willing to do so..Basically, marriage should be a personal choice and not a compulsion...

In my view my these are the most reasons
1. Expensive marriages - In most of the states where population living under below poverty line they have two aur three children they have not much money to spend on two aur three marriages. They complete their social responsibility in one function in this function if they have two aur three children all will have to do marriage whatever age.
2. Powerfulness of social castism groups and their rules.
3. Aata Sata pratha.
Effective steps to be implemented to avoid child marriage.
1. Money spending on marriages to be fixed aur reduced.
2. Group marriage functions to be organised in local areas with the help of local social activist.

The adoptability issues may also crop up among people marrying late in 30s and 40s, resulting in higher divorce rates. They create generation gap with their children, childlessness, declining in birth rate, abnormality in children, fertility issues etc
Therefore, age may not be the only criteria to solve all problems. Lack of 'education' is the root cause of most of the problems. More than just 'age' criteria, good education plays an important role to provide support system to bride, groom and both families to make a marriage successful.
I know, it's easier to say, but implementing on the ground is really challenging.
